Functions:
- There are certain functions that you have learned so far in Excel, for example:
- =sum() gives the sum for a range of numbers
- =average() gives the average for a rang of numbers
- =vlookup() Looks up the information in another table (eg. CD Store Cash Register)
- There are near a hundred functions that you will find in Excel, for example there are ones for math and trigonometry like those used to calculate sine, cosine, logs etc.
- (Don't worry if you forget what these are or have never heard of them you won't be dealing with any of them in this course).
- For your information, however spreadsheets are used extensivally in the sciences for keeping track of experiments and tests and making calculations.
- There are many functions that are used in business at higher level University courses as well that won't be covered in this course.
Business Functions:
- One function used in business frequently is the payment function =pmt()
- You will have a simple demonstration of how to use this in your assignment to calculate the amount of a loan payment. You may recall that you used a spreadsheet in the previous section to calculate loans. This function is a shortcut that only requires one cell.
